Ideas For Easy Septic Systems Saskatchewan Maintenance

By Amanda Bailey

Just like your car needs maintenance and regular inspection, the septic system in your home needs it too. Ignoring its upkeep for several months or years, exposes it to an irreparable condition that might force you to install another system. These systems collect sludge and wastewater from your property to a point where an exhausting company empties it once it is full. Below are guidelines on how to conduct successful maintenance of septic systems Saskatchewan.

When you purchase a new home or a used one, it is imperative that you check where the septic tanks have been positioned. Some of these tanks are placed on the pathways or lawns where destruction might occur if heavy machines step on them. Once their positions are identified, marking the area is a must if you want them to remain safe.

Allowing trees and plants to continue growing in their locations is endangering the tanks. Trees have strong roots that interfere with the walls causing leakage and collapsing of the entire tank. Clear these trees and remove any unwanted weeds that are growing around. However, maintaining the growing grass around them is recommendable since it will make the place attractive and not shouting to everyone that gets into the property.

Allowing everything that comes out of the kitchen, bathroom and the toilet into this system is not recommended. A small utility hole should be built along the sewer line where water from kitchen and washrooms can be directed. As such, only the sludge and small amount of water will go to the main sewer hence saving you from regular pumping. The installed manhole is filled with hardcore stones which absorb water within minutes.

Rainwater flowing towards where these tanks are placed is a disaster. If you are designing the position for constructing them, look at grounds that have good drainage where rainwater cannot access it. Use gutters on your roof by directing their water exit to directions that will not lead to the septic tanks. Also, minimize the amount of water used when flushing the toilet or taking a bath as a way of reducing water going to these tanks.

Do you have to wait until bad odor start being produced to go and check the system status? Waiting that long is careless considering that it might be leaking at that point. Take a few minutes after every six months to open the lead and see the sludge level. As such, you will have an idea of when it will be full prompting you to pump out before it comes to the top.

Pipes transporting sludge to the tanks at times start leaking without your notice. How will you know that they have developed a problem? When you notice a green line growing along the line on dry months, it is an indicator that there is a leakage. This could be as a result of clogging or broken pipe. Have them repaired immediately because they could cause some infections if they are not fixed.

Dry toilets are no longer in use as the past, especially in urban areas. As such, people have to flash out their toilets after defecation where all that mess is stored in septic tanks for months or years depending on its size. However, this might be a nightmare if proper maintenance is not done. Use these guidelines to maintain your system and save prevent repair costs.
