The Eligibility Requirements For Becoming A Certified DBE Firm

By Steven Smith

In the contemporary society, there are many different forms of prejudice and discrimination. The partakers of these irrational and unethical behaviors are very alert to do them in disguise, even though the results still reflect an element of discrimination. To curb this problem and create some social and economic uniformity, the DBE program has been introduced. There are however some requirements that must be met before creating a certified DBE firm.

This is a program that ensures the socially disadvantaged and minority groups get their say. They are given a chance to do their investments and businesses, which are given some favors and suitable environment for operation. The government ensures these groups are protected, and nothing emerges to stop their operation and progress as far as they comply with the requirements set.

A larger percentage, if not all, of the members applying for this accreditation, must belong to the disadvantaged lot. This is a top requirement that should be met for the process to go any further. All the members must be from this group for them to be granted the chance to benefit from the program.

The proposal they have of the business they are already running should be profit oriented. It must be aimed at making some considerable profits in the end, and not just run without any profits. This program only favors and works well with the plans which are aimed at making profits and develop the economy considerably.

The size of a business is weighed and assessed to be at a certain level. It should not be too big or on some large scale. It is required for it to be relatively on a lower scale so that it can pick up slowly after it is incorporated into the program. There is some level that is required for the size, whereby those who have bigger and larger firms are not accredited.

The business should be in the sole control of the people by themselves. They must be well-organized in a manner that they can perfectly run their own business. More so, they should be ones in ownership of all the assets available in the company. There should be no any level whatsoever of interference from an outside force or factor, for instance, support by another firm.

The business should have qualified people behind it. The particular field should be familiar with them. They must have professionals who are equipped to perfectly carry out the process and make it as effective and productive as possible. The program does not invest in a plan that seems to go wrong after some time due to lack of the requisite skills and professionalism.

Before the final step of the accreditation is done, they are required to have all the necessary credentials and legal documents. For instance, they should have the suitable deeds for ownership, bonds, and licenses, among other documents, for the different enterprises they have. The experts they have on board too should have the suitable licenses required for them to be in operation legitimately.
